Transportation Engineer Specialist

TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER SPECIALIST at Story County (Ames) – JOB ID# 7160BR

This position is located in the Office of Traffic and Safety in the Utilities Section. This position will be the lead worker for the section. Duties include the administration of the Utility Relocation Policy and Utility Accommodation Policy. Coordinate utility relocation process with District Utility Coordinators field engineering personnel, and Central Office Utility staff. Review preliminary plans and make field inspections to determine the possible impact to utility facilities on proposed projects. Submit formal notification of pending construction along with preliminary project plans, cross sections and related design data to utility facility owners requesting their review of the plans as they may affect their facilities along the project. Administer the utility contract program for reimbursement to utility companies for relocation on privately owned land. Review engineering plans, scope of work to be performed and cost estimates prepared by utility companies and/or consulting engineers employed by utilities or cities for preliminary and construction engineering services in regard to utility relocations to ensure adherence with state statutes and federal regulations. Investigate, analyze and respond to various utility requests to occupy the state's primary highway right of way for accommodating utilities, where possible, under the Department's Utility Accommodation policy. Recommend changes to administrative rules, department policies, forms, agreements and instructions for use by utilities, so that clear concise information can be conveyed to the intended internal and external customers. Licensed as a Professional Engineer by the Iowa State Board of Engineering Examiners and the equivalent of two years of full time professional level transportation or related civil engineering experience. Travel: Some overnight travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications:  Licensed as a professional engineer by the Iowa State Board of Engineering Examiners and the equivalent of two years of full time professional level transportation or related civil engineering experience.

Salary range: $58,323 – 89,710 plus benefits.  Application Deadline: March 14, 2010
