The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) has started construction on 2.75 miles of streetcar tracks and has planned for an additional 34 miles of streetcar in the District. DDOT has created a dedicated team to deliver the current and future streetcar segments and is seeking an individual to lead the planning, design, and construction of the DC Streetcar.
The District currently has two segments under construction as Design/Build projects. It will initiate the environmental work on three additional segments in 2010. In addition to the DC Streetcar, the District Department of Transportation operates the 43-bus DC Circulator. The DC Circulator carries approximately 5 million passengers per year and anticipates growing its service by at least 10 percent in the coming year.
DDOT also initiated North America’s first bikesharing program. The District currently operates 10 bikesharing pods and 100 bikes, with planned expansion in 2010 to 100 locations and 1,000 bikes. The individual will manage a small team of project engineers and will report directly to the Associate Director of the Progressive Transportation Services Administration. The individual will have broad latitude when delivering streetcar segments and is expected to innovate. As such, we are seeking an entrepreneurial individual with a desire to join a start-up organization.
