Idaho Transportation Department is currently recruiting for a Staff Engineer in our District 5, Pocatello, location.  This announcement will be used to fill the current opening in Pocatello only.   • This position is located in Design and will be primarily responsible for design and implementation of roadways. This will include responsibility for project management of multiple projects being completed by ITD, consultants, and local governmental agencies, and supervision of Design Staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Incumbents in this classification are considered fully competent engineers, capable of performing all the conventional aspects of engineering of the functional areas of responsibility of the discipline involved.
    They will be expected to independently evaluate, select, and adapt situations, and modify techniques, procedures, and criteria to solve problems encountered.
  • Some positions involve: extensive travel and frequent overnight stays; being on call and responding to emergencies at any hour.
  • The physical ability to walk over rough terrain, climb ladders and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  To qualify for these positions, you must show in your resume how you meet the following three requirements:  (If you meet these requirements, you will receive a score of 70.)

  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers OR eligibility for comity licensure from another state. If you have questions regarding licensure, contact the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers at (208) 373-7210.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Experience: analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices; writing technical engineering reports; evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects; coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards.

 

EXAMINATION: 100% Resume Review:  Your customized resume must emphasize positions held that are directly related to the minimum qualifications listed below. Your application materials will be reviewed and a rating assigned. Applicants must receive a minimum rating of 70 to pass this examination. Exam results will be available online when the review process is complete. If you did not Apply Online, you will receive written notification of your exam results.

RANKING ITEMS:  If your resume also indicates specific post P.E. licensure experience in any or all of the following areas you may receive a higher score: 

  1. Analyzing, interpreting, and applying federal, state, and local laws when applying engineering principles
  2. Writing technical engineering reports
  3. Evaluating, selecting, and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects 
  4. Coordinating fieldwork and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards
